Indiana Baseball star Matt Gorski was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2019 MLB Draft on Monday.
Just a day after seeing his season end, Indiana baseball outfielder Matt Gorski was selected in the 2019 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Taken 57th overall, Gorski became the 95th Indiana baseball player to be drafted, and the 17th Hoosier taken in the first five rounds. His spot also represents the highest draftee from the Big Ten this season.
The junior was an All-Big Ten Second Team selection this season after batting .271 with 12 home runs and 46 RBI’s.
After a terrific sophomore campaign in which he was in the top-15 in many national categories, Gorski shot up many draft boards and prospects lists as he would finally be eligible for the draft this season.
Gorski was ranked 92nd overall in SBNation’s MLB prospect rankings and ranked 112th in MLB.com’s Prospect Pipeline heading into the draft.
He now is the highest player drafted from Indiana since Kyle Schwarber in 2014 and the seventh highest draftee in program history.
Choosing to stay close to home for college, the Fishers, Indiana native and Hamilton Southeastern graduate will most likely get his start close to home again. The Pirates AAA affiliate is the Indianapolis Indians, playing at Victory Field, about 30 minutes away from his hometown.
The 2019 MLB Draft continues on Tuesday with rounds 3-10 and concludes on Wednesday with rounds 11-40.
