Indiana football is still over three months away, but it’s never too early to take a look at the position battles heading into the summer, especially the running backs.

One of the backbones for Indiana football in the recent years has been their running game, and once again they will look to lean on the ground attack in 2019.

While nearly split 50-50 last year in percentage of offensive plays being on the ground, Indiana has leaned on some of the top running backs in the Big Ten in the past few seasons.

Names like Tevin Coleman, Jordan Howard, and now Stevie Scott have taken the conference by storm, being ranked amongst the top backs in the league, and even the country.

With Stevie Scott looking to build on his terrific freshman campaign from a season ago, Sampson James comes to Bloomington as one of the top ranked running backs in the country and looks to be next in line as one of the great Hoosier running backs.

With former Michigan running back Mike Hart at the helm as the running backs coach, the Hoosiers will once again have one of the best ground games in the Big Ten.

Breaking down who is returning and who is coming in, there will be at least four backs that are in the constant rotation for Tom Allen, Kalen DeBoer, and Indiana.
