Indiana Basketball: Ranking the top backcourt priorities in the 2020 class
By Alec Lasley
No. 1: Caleb Love
Probably the most talented prospect out of the recruits Indiana is targeting, Love’s recruitment has gone national with Duke, North Carolina and Kentucky amping up the communication.
Already on campus for a visit last year, Love’s connection with the Indiana staff is good, but there is always the draw of the blue bloods.
Love has a great all-around game and is one of the best point guards in the country.
With great size for a lead guard, at 6-foot-3, he also has a good length that he utilizes on defense, one of the strongest parts of his game. He has great quickness that he uses to be able to get past almost any defender and get into the lane to either finish at the rim, or make plays for his teammates.
Though he can play either guard position, he seems like more of a fit at the point position as long as he can limit his turnovers. So far this spring he is averaging three turnovers per game, though he is dishing out 4.9 assist a game.
Love has the ability to stretch the defense past the three-point line, connecting at a 40.5 percent clip so far on the Nike EYBL circuit. Overall he is averaging 17.6 points per game on 46.4 percent from the field.
This is not a recruitment that will go fast, as he continues to rise in the rankings, up to No. 31 in the country, and the No. 5 ranked point guard.
With Indiana in better shape with some other guards in the 2020 class, Love will surely want to see what happens with the backcourts of his favorites before deciding anything, but he is a recruit that will alter the result and expectations of a season for whichever program lands him.
