Indiana Basketball: Ranking the top backcourt priorities in the 2020 class
By Alec Lasley
No. 3: RJ Davis
For RJ Davis, he was more of a secret as he missed six months due to injury over last summer, missing a lot of time in front of college coaches.
He came back strong in his junior season, averaging 25.4 points per game 7.0 rebounds and 4.9 assists while shooting 49 percent from the floor and 34 percent from three.
Continuing his good play, he is averaging 21.2 points on 51 percent shooting and 53.8 percent from three, with 4.1 assists per game on the Nike EYBL circuit.
With a great ability to score at all levels, he uses his craftiness to finish above and through bigger defenders at the rim.
Like Nijel Pack, Davis is just 6-feet, but it’s his length and wingspan that makes up for it.
An emerging guard, he can play both on and off the ball and does so with great decision making, and an ability to hold on to the ball. With an assist-to-turnover ratio of over two, he does a great job at controlling the offense.
Ranked 204 in the 2020 class, Davis will continue to rise and don’t be surprised he he cracks into the top-100 if not higher before it’s all said and done
Holding offers from St. John’s, Illinois, Maryland, Seton Hall, Marist, Old Dominion, Manhattan, Fordham, St. Louis, George Washington, UMass and La Salle, Davis would be a great addition to the class with his shooting ability and overall scoring skillset.
