Former Indiana basketball forward Freddie McSwain Jr helps the Moncton Magic win the NBL Championship.

On Thursday night, former Indiana basketball forward Freddie McSwain Jr helped the Moncton Magic win their first NBL Championship, with their win over the St. John’s Edge.

Win no real competition, the Magic swept the Edge in the Championship series, 4-0, with two of the games being double-digit victories.

Part of Canada’s National Basketball League (NBL), the Magic were the No. 1 seeded team in the playoffs after a 34-16 record in the regular season.

After a smaller role in the Conference Finals, McSwain played a larger part in the four Championship victories, averaging 5.5 points and 5.0 rebonds in 17.0 minutes per game.

His best game of the series came in their game three win, where he scored 14 points and grabbed four rebounding in 18 minutes.

On the year McSwain averaged 8.5 points, on 43.9 percent shooting, and 5.6 rebounds in 18.5 minutes a game. With two starts on the season, McSwain appeared in 34 games.

The former Hoosier did show some flashes of his new style of play, making 32 percent (15-of-47) of his threes this season, being able to keep the defense honest.

Though he expanded his game, he still kept the same high flying ability that he had at Indiana.

It will be interesting to see how McSwain’s career develops and if he is able to find a spot in the NBA G-League.

For now though, it’s a congratulations to him and the rest of the Moncton Magic for their Championship win.
