Indiana Basketball: Big Ten coaches ranked Indiana best job in conference
By Alec Lasley
In a recent poll voted on by all the coaches in the Big Ten, they ranked the Indiana basketball program the best coaching job in the conference.
Despite not making the NCAA Tournament since 2016 and only winning three Big Ten regular season titles since 2000, the Indiana basketball program was voted to have the best coaching job in the conference.
Voted on by the coaches of the Big Ten, the poll was broken down into eight different sections, combining for an overall grade.
One of three schools to list in the Top 10 in every category, the others being Ohio State and Michigan State, their lowest category was a six in the facilities category. Ranked first in history and media exposure, they were second in game atmosphere, surprisingly, behind rival Purdue.
The Hoosiers head into their third season under head coach Archie Miller and look to resort back some of the great history the program has had.
While this shows you that the Indiana program still has a great tradition to lean on, the fact that they still rank first in the overall category despite the lack of success is surprising. With Indiana fans expecting greatness every single year, there is a lot of pressure on coaches and players to perform at a high level, and do so right away.
With the news of Michigan coach John Beilein leaving the Ann Arbor for the Clevland Cavaliers job, this poll comes out at an interesting time, having the Michigan job ranked just fourth in the conference, despite having some of the best success over the last few years.
