Indiana basketball adds to their non-conference schedule for 2019 as they are added to the field for the Jimmy V Classic.

Announced on Tuesday, the Indiana basketball program will be one of four teams to take part in the 2019 Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden, per Jon Rothstein.

With matchups yet to be set, the other three teams included in the field are UConn, Louisville and Texas Tech

Indiana, with a 2-1 record in their history of the event, was last in the Jimmy V Classic in 2014, when they lost to Louisville.

Because of Indiana’s matchup with Louisville last season, there is a good chance of the Hoosiers receiving a matchup of either UConn or Texas Tech.

Last year’s Jimmy V Classic included matchups between Oklahoma and Notre Dame as well as Florida and West Virginia.

The Jimmy V Classic is an annual event to raise money for cancer research, named for the late Jim Valvano, the former 1983 National Championship winning head coach for N.C. State.

The last time the Hoosiers played at Madison Square Garden was the 2018 Big Ten Championship when they fell to Rutgers in the first round by seven points.

Adding the Jimmy V Classic gives Archie Miller and Indiana an expansive non-conference schedule.

The Hoosiers are slated to play in the Gavitt Tipoff games which is the Big East/Big Ten matchup, the second part of the home-and-home series with Arkansas coming to Bloomington, another big time matchup with the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, as well as their annual appearance in the Crossroads Challenge.

For future preseason tournaments like the Jimmy V Classic, the Hoosiers are included in the 2020 Maui Invitational field which will include teams such as North Carolina, Texas, and Alabama.

Hoosier State of Mind will be present at Madison Square Garden for the Jimmy V Classic.
