Indiana Basketball: Trendon Watford close to a decision?
By Alec Lasley
Indiana basketball target Trendon Watford is nearing the end of his recruitment and expects to make a decision within the next two weeks.
With one of the last big name recruits winding down his recruitment, the Indiana basketball program remains high on the list and are making a big push at the end of the process.
Trendon Watford, who originally was going to announce at the Jordan Brand All-Star game, has five schools remaining on his list and will make an immediate impact wherever he ends up.
Coming off of an 18-point and seven rebound performance over the weekend at the Jordan Brand game, Watford sat down with Eric Bossi of Rivals.com to talk his recruitment, timeline and more.
“It hasn’t been set with an official date yet…. But if I don’t do it in like the next week, April 28th or April 30th then I will probably do it in the first week of May.” said Watford. Though Duke remains on his list, they are all but out of the sweepstakes after securing a commitment from Matt Hurt last week. That leaves Memphis, Alabama, LSU, and Indiana as the remaining suitors.
On what would make one program stand out from the others, Watford said, “I would say the school that I can just trust 100%,… Obviously all the schools are great programs but at the end of the day I have to come down to just one and I have to do whatever is best for me.”
The Hoosiers, who had an in-home visit with the Alabama native last Sunday, have been make a big push over the last month, after resurfacing in his recruitment.
Each school has their own draw for Watford, but the wildcard in it all may be that of the LSU Tigers.
The favorite to land the 6-foot-9 forward up until the FBI investigation came out with more information on head coach Will Wade, who was recently reinstated by the university, may end up getting what was expected all along. Recently multiple crystal ball picks have gone in the way of LSU, including one by Jerry Meyer, 247Sports’ Director of Scouting.
In terms of Watford’s relationship with Indiana and coach Miller, he said they “had a really good in-home visit”.
With not much more expected to happen before his decision is announced, Indiana seems to have played all of their cards and now wait to find out whether or not another Watford will be in Candy Stripes come the fall.
