Indiana football will look a bit different this year, not with the talent on the field, but the jerseys on their backs.
In an announcement made yesterday by Indiana Athletic Director Fred Glass, Indiana football will return to putting players’ names on the back of their jerseys moving forward.
“After listening to feedback from a variety of sources, particularly from our fans, I believe it is the right decision to return to an exception for football to our tradition of not having players’ names on our uniforms” Glass said.
Just a year into the change, the names had been removed from the back of the football uniforms for the 2018 season, the fans were not a fan of the new move and voiced their frustrations.
“I have come to understand that, taken together, the unique qualities of football including the size of the competition venue, the distance most of our fans from the field of play, the large number of players, and the use of duplicate numbers…” continued Glass.
Here you can clearly see the difference in the two jerseys from the past two seasons.
Recruits and their families clearly love to see their names on TV and on the field, so this will only continue to help the Hoosiers recruiting moving forward.
Indiana kicks off their 2019 season at Lucas Oil Stadium on Aug. 31 against Ball State and have their home opener on Sept. 7 against Eastern Illinois.
