Indiana Basketball: Juwan Morgan to participate at Portsmouth Invitational
By Alec Lasley
Indiana basketball forward Juwan Morgan is set to participate in the 2019 Portsmouth Invitational this week.
Announced yesterday, Indiana basketball forward Juwan Morgan is one of the 15 invites who played in the 3v3U Tournament during the Final Four weekend, to participate in the Portsmouth Invitational this week.
The Portsmouth Invitational is a four-day event that allows non-lottery players, most being fringe draftees, an extra chance to impress NBA scouts.
For the past 67 years the Portsmouth Invitational has invited 64 of the best college basketball seniors to participate in the event.
The games start on Wednesday (April 17) with two matchups, then three on Thursday and Friday, and finally four on Saturday, including the championship game. The event is comprised of eight teams of eight players.
Playing on Morgan’s team will be JaKeenan Gant (Louisiana), Jessie Govan (Georgetown), Tyler Hall (Montana State), Daquan Jeffries (Tulsa), Jeremiah Martin (Memphis), Justin Robinson (Virginia Tech), and Quinndary Weatherspoon (Mississippi State). This roster will be coached by Kenneth Harris & PJ Honore, Jr. as the head coaches, and Xavier Silas as the assistant.
In his four-year stint at Indiana, Morgan averaged 10.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and shot 56.2 percent from the field.
Ranked 24th all-time on the Indiana basketball scoring list, Morgan had a terrific career in the cream and crimson.
As of now, Morgan is projected to go undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft, but has the possibility of sneaking in the second round with good workouts, and this week will help dramatically with a good showing.
