It’s that time again where we take a look at the Indiana basketball roster and break down the season of each player. Today is Zach McRoberts.

In what is the worst part of the calendar year, the college basketball offseason is here as we wait until November to see the new Indiana basketball team take the court.

Up until then, we stick with the memories that this past year’s team gave us, and for the seniors, the past four years.

For Zach McRoberts, Indiana fans had him for three years after transferring from Vermont, and though he didn’t always light up the box score, he made all the winning plays that mattered.

Never shy for diving on the floor for the loose ball or getting down in a defensive stance, McRoberts played with the energy and enthusiasm needed to succeed at anything, especially basketball at the high division one level.

Though he won’t rank high on any of the all-time Indiana lists, he will go down as one of the hardest workers to wear an Indiana jersey.

Let’s take a look at his season and what’s next for him.

2018-19 Season in Review

Not the way he wanted his senior year to start off, McRoberts missed four of the first six games of the season, eventually spending the majority of the season dealing with nagging injuries.

Overall, he missed nine games, and made just five starts after a year in which he was a constant member of the starting lineup.

Through all of the injuries, McRoberts always gave it his all when he was on the floor. On the season, he averaged 0.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 0.5 assists per game in 13.7 minutes a game.

A season high of six points came in the opener when he actually started off the scoring for the Hoosiers season with an opening three from the right corner. After that, however, he had just 14 points for the rest of the year.

Shooting never being his forte, he made just eight shots on the year, averaging just one shot attempt per game.

In the rebounding and hustle category though, McRoberts was always a factor.

Again, not always showing in the stats, he often times kept possessions alive with timely offensive rebounds or hustle plays that most other players wouldn’t think of doing.

Nothing exemplified McRoberts more than this play in the Northwestern game, when he dove on the floor saving a ball that ultimately led to a Romeo Langford three, in a crucial moment of the game.

What’s next?

Obviously McRoberts will now move on from his playing career and finish his school year.

Graduating with a Kelley School of Business degree is no easy feat for normal students, but while playing basketball shows you his hard work and determination.

When McRoberts leaves Bloomington, look for him to succeed in anything he does.
