The Indiana basketball program is scheduled to be back in the Maui Invitational in 2020 per a release yesterday.

The Maui Invitational website released the names of the teams scheduled to participate in the tournament in 2020, which included Indiana basketball.

Though not all teams are confirmed, and since then the announcement was taken down, it seems as though the Hoosiers will be back in Maui for the first time since 2015.

In what will be a star studded field, the other teams listed were North Carolina, Texas, Providence, Davidson, UNLV, Alabama, and Stanford.

Normally included in the tournament field is host team Chaminade, but last year a rule change was instituted having Chaminade included in every other tournament field, this way to included another Division one team in the island field.

Indiana has been part of the tournament on six occasions with an 11-8 overall record – including campus games. They last won the event in 2002-03, while also making trips in 1990, 1994, 1998 and 2008.

Played in the ‘historic’ Lahaina Civic Center, the 2,400 seat venue is one of the best places to watch a game – especially with all the talent in the gym over the course of the week.

Back in 2015, former coach Tom Crean announced, “Put down 2020 as your next trip here because now we’re back on that docket. We’ll be back in 2020…..”. Teams are allowed to come back every four to five years, and with the announcement made yesterday, it seems as the Indiana will stay on that path.
