Indiana Football: Jordan Howard traded to the Eagles
By Alec Lasley
Former Indiana football player Jordan Howard is on the move as he is traded from the Chicago Bears to the Philadelphia Eagles.
One of the top young running backs in the NFL is on the move as former Indiana football player Jordan Howard was traded from the Chicago Bears to the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday night, the team that knocked the Bears out of the playoffs in the Wildcard round this past season.
In exchange for Howard, the Bears received a conditional 2020 draft pick.
Howard, a 2016 fifth round draft pick, set the Chicago Bears’ franchise rookie rushing record with 1,313 yards and also went on to reach 2,000 rushing yards faster (24 games) than both Walter Payton and Gale Sayers.
The former Hoosier had been involved in trade rumors for over the last year and become even more likely as Tarik Cohen took on a more featured role in the Bears’ offense. Because of this, Howard saw a dip in production as he finished with just 935 rushing yards and a 3.7 yards per carry average.
Howard’s fate was all but sealed when the Bears signed Mike Davis this offseason.
In Philadelphia, Howard joins a backfield consisting of Corey Clement, Josh Adams, Wendell Smallwood, Donnell Pumphrey and Boston Scott, with no real lead back to speak of.
In his first three NFL seasons, the 6-foot, 224 pound back has rushed for 3,370 yards on 778 carries and 24 touchdowns in 47 career games.
Funny enough, Howard will meet up with his old team on the gridiron when the Bears visit the Eagles this season.
