Indiana Basketball: Inside the locker room following the loss
By Alec Lasley
Indiana basketball’s season ended with a tough loss to Wichita State on Tuesday night. Here’s what the players had to say about the loss, season, and moving forward.
In what was a low key locker room setting following their season ending loss, players from the Indiana basketball team addressed the media.
While Romeo Langford was not available for questions in the locker room, the rest of the team who saw action was.
Speaking with multiple players looking into next season and what they can take from this year, we asked Juwan what he would share most with Devonte Green and De’Ron Davis about the importance of leadership going into next season.
"“That they can’t be a stranger to hard work. They have to be ready to do what’s asked of them… Although it’s going to be tough at times, that’s going to be what is required of them”"
When asked what he will remember most about playing at Indiana University and in Assembly Hall.
"“Putting on the ‘candy stripes’ every game.. A lot of memories in there. I’ll remember the fans, most def. All the adversity I’ve been through in the four years, they’ve always been behind us, and I cant thank them enough. It’s been a fun four years.”"
When talking to De’Ron Davis, one of two seniors on the team next season, we asked him what he would take away the most from Juwan Morgan about being a leader.
"“Just watching him everyday in practice, all about being the same person and accepting the grind and the challenge everyday.”"
We also spoke to Al Durham, who showed flashes of what’s to come with his play in the NIT, and asked him what he will take away most from this season moving forward. He told us that “no matter what, it’s always a learning experience. You always learn from the up’s and down’s and that’s what we can carry into next year.”
Indiana will have a lot to replace next year, with the loss of Juwan Morgan and the assumption that freshman guard and leading scorer, Romeo Langford, will be off to the NBA as well.
Overall though, they have a great foundation with Rob Phinisee, Devonte Green, De’Ron Davis, Al Durham and Justin Smith, and with the addition of the 2019 recruiting class, there is a lot to build around, with the assumption everyone enters next year fully healthy.
