Indiana Basketball: Trendon Watford still a possibility for the Hoosiers?
By Alec Lasley
With some recent developments in the college basketball landscape, the Indiana basketball program has re-opened up talks with 2019 wing Trendon Watford.
Five-star forward Trendon Watford, brother of former Indiana forward Christian Watford, has some recent developments in his recruitment, per Peegs.com.
All but down to two schools a couple of weeks ago, in LSU and Alabama, with the FBI scandal coming to light with LSU and head coach Will Wade, and the firing of Alabama head coach Avery Johnson, Watford has taken a step up back in his recruitment.
Though there has been very little communication as of late, the possibility of Watford heading to Bloomington is not out of the window. Because of the recent news, Archie Miller and the Hoosiers have reached back out and conversations have begun to redevelop.
The last time Watford was on Indiana’s campus was when he took an unofficial visit in the fall when his sister’s volleyball team had a tournament in Bloomington.
Obviously LSU and Alabama, who recently announcing the interest in hiring part of Watford’s high school team’s staff, are still in the mix, but two other schools to keep an eye on are Duke and Memphis.
Though Watford hasn’t taken a visit to Durham, or received a scholarship yet, he has expressed interest and a Duke offer would be tough to beat out.
For Memphis, the Watford family has a strong relationship with assistant coach Mike Miller, and the possibility of teaming up with the no. 1 overall recruit in James Wiseman next year could be enough to grab Watford.
Watford still holds to his decision date being April 20 at the Jordan Brand All-Star game, so there is still time to build the relationship, but it may be tough to beat out some of the already built relationships in the mix.
