Indiana Basketball: Bloomington ranked in top 15 best college basketball cities
By Alec Lasley
Bloomington was named in the top 15 best college basketball cities in a recent study, cheering on their Indiana Hoosiers basketball .
A recent study, which ranked the top college basketball cities in the country, saw Bloomington arrive on no. 14 on the list.
In order to come up with the rankings, WalletHub used multiple different metrics. They range from the number of teams per city and the winning percentage of each to stadium capacity and social-media engagement.
Coming in first on the list, to no real surprise, is Lawrence, KS – the home for the Kansas Jayhawks – with a score of 59.03 (out of 100). With not much success in their sports outside of the basketball program, Phog Allen Fieldhouse is one of the all-time great venues in any sport, always packed for every home game – helping them win 14 straight Big 12 regular season titles, before coming up short this season.
One surprise in the top three was Los Angeles, CA at number three. As a city that has a lot of nightlife and attractions outside of sports, the fact that they show up that high on the list is very interesting.
Second was Durham, NC, with East Lansing, MI, and Chapel Hill, NC rounding out the top five. Lexington, KY comes in at eighth with a ranking of 51.16.
Some notable cities that Bloomington ranks just ahead of are Ann Arbor, MI (17th) and South Bend, IN (22nd).
Though Bloomington ranks lower than expected in that category, they do rank quite high in others.
For ticket prices, Bloomington ranks in the top 10 as most expensive ticket prices, while also tied for first with Chapel Hill as the most engaged fan base.
