Indiana Football: Tevin Coleman and Rodger Saffold on the move in NFL Free Agency
By Alec Lasley
Two former Indiana football players are on the move in NFL Free agency, finding new homes for the 2019 season.
In a free agent frenzy over the last 24 to 48 hours, many names have been on the move, either traded or through free agency.
Two such names are former Hoosiers in Tevin Coleman and Rodger Saffold.
Both integral parts of their respective teams over the last couple of years, both players are looking for a fresh start and new roles.
For Tevin Coleman, spending his first four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, he signed a two-year deal worth $10 million with the San Fransisco 49ers.
Ranked 17th on NFL.com’s list of Top 101 free agents in 2019, Coleman will join a backfield consisting of Jerick McKinnon and Matt Breida, providing much needed depth as McKinnon works his way back from an ACL injury last season.
In his career, Coleman has amassed 2,340 yards rushing and 1,010 yards receiving with 29 total touchdowns (18 rushing).
Another former Indiana football star, Rodger Saffold, is taking his talents to Tennessee.
Signing a four-year, $44 million deal with $22.5 million in guaranteed money with the Tennessee Titans, the 30-year-old offensive lineman had spent his entire nine season career with the Los Angeles Rams, formerly the St. Louis Rams.
A second-round pick in 2010, Saffold appeared in 114 games with 111 starts at both left tackle and both guard positions.
Playing a major role in the Rams’ running game, Saffold looks to do the same with a backfield that consists of Derrick Henry and Dion Lewis.
Saffold appeared in this year’s Super Bowl, falling just short to the New England Patriots.
