Indiana Basketball: NBA Weekly Update
As the regular season continues to wind down, some former Indiana basketball players are preparing for their team’s playoff run while others are proving themselves to their teams.
Indiana basketball continues to be a factor in the NBA playoff push for multiple teams.
Eric Gordon and OG Anunoby will be major contributors to their teams when the NBA playoffs commence and hope to use these last few weeks to boost their confidence heading into the first round of playoffs.
Here is how current NBA and former Indiana basketball players fared this past week.
Eric Gordon (Houston Rockets – 16.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists)
Gordon had a major impact in the Rockets’ close win over the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday when he put up 26 points on an efficient 10-of-20 shooting on the night.
With the Rockets on a three game winning streak, Eric has made an average of four three pointers per game during his outings this week.
Houston will look to continue their winning streak versus Charlotte early on in the week followed by a Wednesday battle against the Golden State Warriors.
Weekly Stat Line: 18.6 PPG, 2.0 RPG, 1.3 APG, 53.8% FG, 48.1% 3PT 3-0 W/L
Cody Zeller (Charlotte Hornets – 10.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists)
Charlotte, playing a string of Eastern Conference games, did not fair well in the past week, losing two of three games.
However, Cody Zeller has continued to find some rhythm after returning from injury, averaging nearly double figure points and provided a spark on the boards.
Zeller had a productive game in a loss against the Miami Heat on Wednesday, where he put up a double-double of ten points and ten rebounds.
Weekly Stat line: 9.3 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 2.0 APG, 48% FG 1-2 W/L
OG Anunoby (Toronto Raptors – 7.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 0.6 assists)
OG has continued to show his value as a two-way player in the NBA and has shown steady improvement as a three-point threat, and on the defensive end.
Although he did not play much against the Rockets in their loss, he showed his value in blowout games later in the week against the Miami Heat and New Orleans Pelicans.
His game will continue to develop and with Toronto primed to make a deep run in the playoffs, Anunoby should receive valuable experience leading on to the rest of his career.
Weekly Stat Line: 7.0 PPG, 2.3 RPG, 63.6% FG, 2-1 W/L
Thomas Bryant (Washington Wizards – 9.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 0.9 blocks)
Bryant has seem to find his place on this Wizards team, averaging about 17 minutes a game in recent outings.
The 6-foot-10 forward best game came against Cody Zeller and the Hornets, where he posted 12 points but only two rebounds on 4-of-5 shooting.
While rebounding is an area of improvement for the young big man, his future looks bright in Washington.
Weekly Stat Line: 8.6 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 1.0 BPG, 55.5% FG 1-2 W/L
Noah Vonleh (New York Knicks – 8.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists)
The Knicks have built on their losing streak this week by going 0-3 and allowing their losing streak to reach six games in a row.
Vonleh did not play in the New York’s game against Sacramento, but did play meaningful minutes in losses against Phoenix and Minnesota, where he scored 15 points against the Suns on a very effective 6-of-10 shooting.
While it seems the Knicks are continuing to tank in hopes of drafting Zion Williamson, Vonleh could still be an integral part of this team’s young core of players.
Weekly Stat Line: 11.5 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 64.2% FG, 0-3 W/L
Yogi Ferrell (Sacramento Kings- 5.7 points, 2.0 assists, 1.6 rebounds)
The Kings had a winning record last week, winning two of three, with the only loss being a two point one against the Boston Celtics.
While he only scored two points in the loss, Yogi did have three assists in the 10 minutes of playing time that he received.
In the two wins against the Knicks, he had a bit more success scoring-wise, as he averaged 3.5 points in both games. Ferell will look to continue his development and build his confidence in the league as his season winds down.
Weekly Stat Line: 3.0 PPG, 1.6 RPG, 40% FG, 2-1 W/L
