Patience: Systematic Fit

Archie Miller inherited a roster from Tom Crean that was designed to play an entirely different brand of basketball.

Coach Crean’s pace & space philosophy emphasized up-tempo offense with high scoring. Defense was never his priority.

Coach Miller, however, has an almost opposite philosophy from Crean. He wants to focus on effort and energy, defense, and playing at a slower pace on offense.

With only one recruiting class under his belt, Miller is dealing with guys who either don’t really fit his system or freshmen who have very little experience in the NCAA.

The offense has certainly struggled, but perhaps Miller can coach his team better on offense once he’s had a chance to get some of his own hand-picked athletes.
