Indiana Baseball: Hoosiers get swept by Tennessee

Indiana baseball falls to 2-4 on the season as they get swept in their weekend series against the Tennessee Volunteers.

In their second series of the season, Indiana fails to get a win against their SEC opponent, Tennessee.

Getting outscored 21-4 in the three games, the Hoosiers continued their cold spell at the plate to open up the season, going just 13-of-99 (.131) over the weekend.

Tennessee, coming into the series outscoring their opponents 29-0 in their previous four games, led the NCAA in era and shut down Indiana every single game.

Tennessee took the series opener, 5-1. Garrett Stallings pitched a gem for the Volunteers, holding the Hoosiers to one run over seven innings while striking out nine. Pauly Milto kept Indiana in the game after giving up three runs in the first inning, not allowing a single run over the next five innings, finishing with nine strikeouts in six innings pitched.

For game two, the flood gates opened early for Tennessee and the Hoosiers were unable to keep the game within striking distance losing 11-0. Zach Linginfelter struck out 13 for the Volunteers in just six innings. Tennessee was extremely effective scoring their 11 runs on just 10 hits.

In the series finale, the Hoosiers lost a hard fought battle, 5-3. After leading 3-0 in the fourth inning, Indiana failed to get a single hit for the rest of the game.

Knocking out Will Neely after just 2.2 innings, Garrett Crochet threw a terrific next 5.1 innings, striking out nine and giving up just two hits, leading the Volunteers to the win.

Preseason All-American Matt Gorski missed all three games in the series due to an undisclosed illness, a major part of the Indiana offense.

Indiana returns to action on Tuesday when they have their home opener in a single game series against Cincinnati.
