College baseball was back and Indiana baseball won their opening series against Memphis, winning two of the three games.

Hoosiers’ fans had to wait an extra day to see baseball, as the season opener was delayed due to weather until Saturday, forcing the teams to play a double-header.

In their season opening series, the Hoosiers won two of three games on the road to take the first series of the season, beating Memphis.

The winning team scored six runs in every game (6-1, 3-6, 6-0), as Jeff Mercer starts off the season on a strong note for Indiana.

In game one, senior pitcher Pauly Milto was terrific, allowing only two hits while striking out seven and surrendered no runs in seven strong innings to get his first win on the season.

Matt Lloyd and Matt Gorski led the attack at the plate in game one, combining for five hits and four RBI’s.

Game two was entirely different though, as Memphis took control early and was able to hold on through a late Hoosiers’ run, winning 6-3.

Despite another good outing from Indiana’s starting pitcher Tanner Gordon (4.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 6K),  errors opened the flood gates for the Tigers in the middle innings, finishing with four for the game.

In the rubber match, it was pitching again that shut down Memphis, as Tommy Sommer pitched another gem for Indiana, going six strong innings, giving up just five hits and striking out four.

The Hoosiers (2-1) go on the road again on Friday, for a three game series against the Tennessee Volunteers (3-0).
