Indiana basketball: Former Hoosier OG Anunoby selected for Rising Stars Challenge

The former Indiana basketball standout was selected for the NBA All-Star weekend Rising Stars Challenge.

The second year pro, OG Anunoby, was selected to participate in the NBA All-Star weekend festivities with an invite to play in the Rising Stars Challenge.

This is the fifth time that a Hoosier will be represented in the challenge, but the first since 2015.

For the fifth straight year, the Rising Stars Challenge will feature rookies and second-year players using a U.S. vs. World roster format.

Anunoby, originally from England, will participate on the Word team that includes rookie phenom Luka Doncic, as well as Ben Simmons and DeAndre Ayton, amongst others.

The world roster will go up against a U.S. roseter that Jayson Tatum, Trae Young, Donovan Mitchell, Kyle Kuzma, Jaren Jackson Jr, De’Aron Fox, Marvin Bagley, Jarrett Allen, John Collins and Lonzo Ball.

On the season, Anunoby is averaging 7.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game, all while shooting 44 percent from the field for the Toronto Raptors.

Anunoby has played in 41 games thus far this season, starting in five of them.

Formerly known as the ‘rookie-sophomore’ game, the World team is 3-1 under the current roster format.

Bogdan Bogdanovic was named the game’s MVP last year, when the World team beat the U.S. 155-124.

The two honorary captains will be Boston Celtics’ Kyrie Irving (U.S.) and Dallas Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki (World).

The game will take place on Feb 15, at 9:00 pm EST.
