Indiana Football: Hoosiers to hire Kaleb DeBoer as OC
By Alec Lasley
According to reports, the Indiana football program intends to hire Kaleb DeBoer as their offensive coordinator.
A vacant position for most of the offseason, the Indiana Hoosiers have seemed to fill their offensive coordinator role with Kaleb DeBoer.
Formerly at Fresno State, where he has spent the last two seasons as their offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, DeBoer will take over the offense in Bloomington.
In the coaching ranks since 1998, DeBoer spent time from 2005-09 as the head coach for Sioux Falls of the NAIA.
During his five seasons, he compiled a 67-3 record, while going 49-1 in conference play. Making it to the NAIA Championship game in four out of five seasons, DoBoer came out with a 3-1 record in championship games.
Included in his honors is being named a three time NAIA Coach of the Year (2006, 2008-2009).
Some previous stops for DeBoer before Fresno State were Eastern Michigan, Southern Illinois and also a coordinator role at Sioux Falls.
Well respected as an offensive coordinator, DeBoer helped Fresno State to a 22-6 record with one Mountain West championship, two division titles and a No. 18 final AP ranking in 2018, all while taking over a program that went 1-11 in the year prior to the new staff’s arrival.
Fresno State’s offense also took a huge step forward after his arrival as yards per play jumped from ranked 123rd in the NCAA to 22nd, and total points jumped up from 212 when he arrived, to almost 500 by the time he left.
At Eastern Michigan, his offense shattered the school record for total yards (5,917), points scored (385), passing yards (3,849), touchdown passes (25), first downs (303), pass completions (309), and total plays (999), amongst other terrific stats.
Obviously the Big Ten is a step above most conferences in the country, but DeBoer’s work speaks for itself, and most around the program are extremely excited about the hire.
