Indiana Football: Antwaan Randle El joining the Bucs’ coaching staff

Former Indiana football star, Antwaan Randle El, has agreed to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coaching staff.

The former Indiana football standout is back in the NFL, this time staying on the sidelines. Antwaan Randle El will join Bruce Arians’ staff in Tampa Bay as a member of the offense and special teams units as an assistant.

Randle El was one of 18 new assistants for Bruce Arians and the Buccaneers.

Arians and Randle El spent time together when the Steelers won the Super Bowl in 2006 and when they advanced to the Super Bowl in 2011, while Arians was the offensive coordinator.

Randle El, 39, who has been working as the athletic director for Virginia Academy, a private school in Loudoun County, Va, recently served as the interim head basketball coach as well.

An All-American for the Hoosiers in 2001 as a quarterback, Randle-El spent nine seasons (five with the Pittsburgh Steelers and four with the Washington Redskins) in the NFL as a wide receiver and punt/kick returner.

During his time in the league, he amassed 370 career passes for 4,467 yards and 27 touchdowns, and also finished with more than 4,400 kick return yards throughout his pro career.

Finishing with 7,469 passing yards, 3,895 rushing yards, and 92 total touchdowns over his college career, Randle El finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting during his senior season with he Hoosiers.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers finished 5-11 this past year failing to make the playoffs for the 10th straight season, last coming in 2007-08.
