Indiana Basketball: Hoosiers stay in top 25 despite loss on Friday
By Alec Lasley
With the new AP Top 25 poll released today, the Indiana Hoosiers stayed in the top 25 despite losing two in a row.
The Hoosiers remained ranked despite losing two in a row, to Michigan and Maryland, their fifth straight week in the rankings.
Ranked No. 25 in the newest poll release, the Hoosiers play host to Nebraska at home tonight, looking to avoid a three game losing streak.
Though the Hoosiers have slid the last two weeks, their resume speaks for itself as their quality wins outweigh their recent results.
Despite losing at Maryland, a team that has been in and out of the top 25 all season long jumping to No 19 this week after being unranked just a week ago, the Hoosiers led for over half of the game and were just overcome by the front court play of Bruno Fernando in the second half.
The Big Ten has four other ranked teams in the top 25 this week with Michigan leading the way staying at No. 2, despite their unblemished record. Michigan State comes in at No. 6 in the country while Maryland (No. 19) and Iowa (No. 23) jump back in the rankings this week.
Ohio State was the only Big Ten team to fall out of the top 25, after losing three straight, but still received votes (34). Others to receive votes were Nebraska, second highest amount of votes with 36, Wisconsin (31), Purdue (16), and Minnesota (3).
The Hoosiers have a big week coming up, as they travel to rival Purdue on Saturday after hosting Nebraska tonight.
Ahead on the schedule is a rematch at home against Michigan on Friday Jan 25 and at Michigan State on Saturday Feb 2.
