Indiana Basketball: Hoosiers fall apart in loss at Maryland

The Hoosiers lose back-to-back games for the first time this year, in their 78-75 loss to the Maryland Terrapins on Friday.

In what was a game of runs for both teams, the Terrapins took down the Indiana Hoosiers 78-75 on Friday night.

After starting the game on 17-4 run, and not trailing until the 15 min mark of the second half, the Hoosiers let Maryland right back in the game when they started the second half going 0-for-9 while the Terrapins went on a 16-2 run.

One of the biggest storylines heading into the game was on the glass, where Maryland has a +11.2 rebound margin in games this season. Taking advantage of the lack of size for the Hoosiers, the Terrapins finished with a +17 margin with 18 rebounds being on the offensive glass.

Led by Anthony Cowan Jr, who finished with 24 points and seven assists, the Terrapins shot 50.3 percent in the second half, after only 32.3 percent in the first half, leading them to victory.

Bruno Fernando, who was silent for most of the first half, came out firing on all cylinders in the second half. Not missing a shot in the second half, Fernando finished with 25 points and 13 rebounds.

After missing his first shot of the game, Fernando made his last 11 shots of the game.

Indiana, who was led by Romeo Langford with 20 of his 28 points in the second half, could never get the extra stop they needed on the defensive end, trailing most of the second half by six to nine points.

Juwan Morgan added 14 points and 8 rebounds for the Hoosiers, but his lack of size – only 6-foot-7 – was an issue on the defensive glass all night long.

Indiana finished shooting 48.1 percent from the field, and going 16-of-16  from the free throw line.

Heading back home, the Hoosiers face Nebraska on Monday, looking to get back in the win column after a two game losing streak.
