Mens Soccer: Austin Panchot signs with North Carolina FC
By Alec Lasley
Hoosiers’ midfielder signed a deal to continue his playing career professionally with North Carolina FC, part of the United Soccer League.
The former Hoosier soccer standout, Andrew Panchot, has signed a professional soccer deal with the North Carolina Football Club, in Cary, North Carolina, the club announced today.
Panchot, along with the Indiana program, couldn’t be happier, as both took to social media to share the news.
Having local ties to the area, Panchot’s dad, Jeff Panchot, played soccer collegiately at North Carolina State
Panchot played in 82 matches, scoring13 goals and finishing with nine assists over his entire career with Indiana. During their run to the NCAA College Cup, the midfielder scored two game-winning goals, most notably in their Quarterfinal matchup with No. 13 Notre Dame.
Earning three-time Academic All-Big Ten honors, Panchot’s North Carolina FC coach expects him to be a contributor right away.
"“Austin is coming from an outstanding program with good coaching and a great environment,” said North Carolina FC Head Coach Dave Sarachan. “They had a good run this year and he was one of four or five seniors that I watched and I think could translate to the next level. His starting point coming in will be good for a young player and he’ll have some versatility.”"
Part of the United Soccer League (USL), a second tier professional soccer league, North Carolina FC is heading into their 13th season, but only their second with the current name – previously known as the Carolina RailHawks.
