Indiana Basketball: Romeo Langford named Big Ten Freshman of the Week
By Alec Lasley
Indiana Hoosiers’ guard Romeo Langford was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after his performances against Illinois and Michigan.
A projected lottery pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Romeo Langford was named Freshman of the Week in the Big Ten.
His third honor of the year in that category, Langford averaged 22.5 points and 6.0 rebounds a game during the week.
After scoring a career high 28 points at home against Illinois on Thursday, Langford followed that up with a 17 point performance against Michigan.
Without fellow freshman backcourt partner Robert Phinisee (concussion) over the last couple of games, it has only meant increased time with the ball in the hands of Langford. He has not only taken on that responsibility, but relished in it.
Against Illinois, Langford used his aggressiveness to get to the line 15 times, connecting on 11 of them, following it up with a 6-for-6 performance form the line against Michigan.
On the season he is averaging 18.2 points per game, ranked fifth in the Big Ten in scoring, on just slightly over 50 percent shooting from the field. What is even more impressive about his percentage is the fact that he ranks third amongst all guards in the conference and he is only one of three players with over 150 field goal attempts in the top 30 percentages.
The freshman ranks in the top 10 in the conference in terms of usage percentage, and has yet to play anything less than stellar when he is out on the court.
