Indiana men’s soccer fullback, Andrew Gutman, wins MAC Hermann Trophy following 2018-19 season.

In what is the equivalent to the Heisman Trophy, the MAC Hermann Trophy goes to the top soccer player in the country, both male and female, as voted on by the NCAA Division 1 coaches, and Andrew Gutman earned that honor this year.

The senior helped the Hoosiers reach a record 20th College Cup appearance this season, before losing to Maryland in the semifinals.

Gutman is the seventh Hoosier to take home the MAC Hermann Trophy, but is just the first to win the award since Danny O’Rourke in 2004.

The All-American beat out Andre Shinyashiki from the University of Denver, and University of Kentucky’s J.J Williams.

While helping the the Hoosiers to the first perfect 8-0 record in Big Ten history, taking home the conference title, Gutman led the team with 11 goals while also finishing with nine assists.

This is not the only award he has received this year though, as he also earned Top Drawer Soccer National Player of the Year, First-Team All-America by United Soccer Coaches, First-Team Best XI by Top Drawer Soccer, First-Team All-American by College Soccer News, Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, and First-Team All-Big Ten honors.

The Hoosiers could be in good standing to keep the award in Bloomington next year as Hoosier teammate, sophomore goalkeeper Trey Muse, was a semifinalist for the trophy.
