Indiana Basketball: Jacksonville preview
By Dylan Broady
Indiana Basketball improved to 10-2 following a blowout win over Central Arkansas. What can we expect against Jacksonville?
Let’s first start off with what we do know about this Indiana Basketball team. We are strong, relentless and we have undeniable fortitude. We can win close games all day long and we can also blow teams out of the water. We’ve lost a game by one point that we should’ve won. We received a blowout loss from one of the top teams in the nation.
So what can we expect from our Hoosiers heading into a game against another weak opponent? First let’s discuss what they should do. We should open up the playbook. We all know IU should easily win this ball game. Let’s take some chances and run a few plays we have been working on. In games like this we can see if those plays work in real game time situations. What’s it going to hurt?
We need to feed Romeo even more. He loves to be more versatile against weaker opponents. When you watch the Hoosiers play a team that is nowhere near the same caliber it feels different. The team plays more loose. They look like they are having fun. We need to carry this style of gameplay over to the Big Ten matchups.
This team thrives on being able to get creative. In the four close wins prior to the Central Arkansas win, we played tight and almost robotic. We would love to see this team play like we did Wednesday. A lot more players were involved in scoring as a result. The burden wasn’t all on Juwan Morgan’s shoulders. We need to play team basketball like we saw against CA going forward.
We have achieved a level of confidence after 12 games that won’t be undone. We just need to feed off of everything we have learned along the way. With so many true freshman paying dividends, it’s natural for them to take a dozen games to find their true stroke. The team we have seen grind out tough wins is the same team we will see going forward. Let’s just hope we can keep up the momentum when the big boy games start.
