Indiana Basketball: IU hosts Central Arkansas
By Dylan Broady
The Indiana Hoosiers will play host to Central Arkansas Wednesday. What does this mean for Indiana Basketball?
Our Indiana basketball program has fought their way to some really good wins this season. Winners of four straight after the devastating loss to Duke. What can we expect from our Hoosiers in a game that seems like an easy win? There are a few things we do know. We need to work on our turnovers and free throw shooting.
Juwan Morgan bailed us out against Butler in the Crossroads Classic with his perfect display from the charity stripe. We all know that as a whole, free throw shooting has been a problem. Our turnovers have been disastrous this season. If it wasn’t for Romeo Langford, Roberth Phinisee and Al Durham playing at a high level along with Morgan, we wouldn’t be sitting at 9-2.
We have to improve against Central Arkansas and mix things up a bit. We know CA can’t beat us even on a bad day. We need to fully take advantage of this opportunity of taking on a lesser opponent. We just need to acknowledge that every team we play will give us their best shot. This should be an easy win for our Hoosiers.
In games like this we should mix up the plays. Take a few chances and try some new things out. We are now the 22nd-ranked team in the country. Give your Hoosiers a round of applause. That ranking is well deserved. The sky is the limit for this ball club. We have a great chance at being 12-2 when we travel to Ann Arbor in January. We need to keep our feet on the pedal.
Juwan Morgan has proven he can lead this team and his range is limitless. The buzzer beater by Robert Phinisee was really fun to watch and got us pumped up. We shouldn’t rely on clutch shots to win every game though. Our last four games have been decided by three points or less. While that makes for an exciting finish, we would like to see Indiana dominate a few games going forward.
It all starts with this game. Let’s dominate and make a statement that we can win in style. Prove we don’t need lucky shots to compete. We were behind the entire game against Butler. They outplayed us until the final two minutes. Langford needs to show more playmaking abilities if he wants to supplant himself in Indiana lore. We need less turnovers from him as well. He was brought in to kick this team up a notch.
This game needs to be a statement win for Indiana. Just to prove we can still win by a double digit margin. We have a great team. We would just like to see a little more as we enter the meat of our schedule. The Big Ten schedule is coming fast and we need to be ready to ball out if we want a real chance at making the big dance. The Big Ten is peppered with talent. We need to showcase why our talent is superior to the rest.
