Indiana Basketball player profiles: Romeo Langford
By Dylan Broady
As we await this weekend’s game against the Butler Bulldogs, let’s take a look at how our Indiana Basketball team has played thus far.
We will start a new player profile series this season. We will look at some of the starters and see how they have done, how they can improve and where we see them going forward. Where do we see our Indiana Basketball team going? Of course we have to start with our No.1 player in Romeo Langford. He has done a phenomenal job in his first year as a Indiana Hoosier.
How has he done?
Langford so far this season is averaging 18 points per game, 48.8 field goal percentage. His free throw percentage is at a healthy 69%. He also adds five rebounds and two assists per game. Overall these are decent stats from a true freshman. Could he do better? Absolutely! This guy has nothing but open space ahead and tons of room for improvement.
How can Langford improve?
I think we all can agree that Langford along with his fellow Hoosiers could improve on free throw shooting, turnovers and basic basketball mechanics. Langford is good, but he is raw. He has moments in each game where he seems unstoppable, then we don’t hear his name for the rest of the game. Is it bad coaching? Maybe the opposing team catches on and starts to double team him down the stretch?
Where we see Langford going forward
We see Langford stepping up in a bigger way each and every game going forward. He will have to if he wants to not only have a great college season, but improve his draft stock for the NBA if he decides to go early. We would love for him to stay, but we all know the glaring reality if Langford has an amazing season going forward.
This is college basketball we are use to the one and done mentality. We can only hope he isn’t quite ready to leave and wants to make his mark in college before leaving. Nonetheless we see Langford improving his points per game average to around 20 per game. His rebounds to eight and assists to around five per game. His turnovers will improve as well. One a game in basketball is pretty much a given. We can give him the benefit of the doubt there.
