Three changes the Indiana Hoosiers football program needs to make
By Dylan Broady
As we enter the offseason here are three changes the Indiana Hoosiers need to make before the 2019 season.
The very first change that must be made for this program to actually make a bowl and win a bucket is Tom Allen needs to find someone else to lead the defense. Allen has made a name for himself by being a defensive genius. It’s time though for Allen to focus more on being a head coach. He stated as much in his final press conference that a change might be made.
Secondly, the Hoosiers need a jump start on the offensive side of the ball as well. Offensive coordinator Mike Debord at best has a very conservative play calling style. He underutilized his big body weapons in Donovan Hale and Nick Westbrook. Starting quarterback Peyton Ramsey can’t seem to get into a throwers rhythm with the inconsistent play calling. There are games where the Hoosiers are a run first offense and other games where Ramsey is just throwing short passes all over the field.
Last but not least the Hoosiers have to beat Purdue for the coveted bucket. Here at IU we pride ourselves on beating our cross state rivals. We haven’t been able to do so the past two seasons under Tom Allen. Allen has had some good recruiting classes.
He needs to capitalize on those good players and fully utilize their abilities in order to win big games going forward. Not to mention we can’t seem to beat the Big Ten blue bloods. In order for IU to achieve another bowl eligible season, we need to win some big games.
Overall we just need to grow up as a team and play effective college football. We are in the best conference, let’s start playing like a Big Ten team.
