The Indiana Hoosiers softball team began their season friday afternoon with a doubleheader. Sadly, they lost both to Boise State and Oregon State.
After a disappointing 2017 season, the Indiana Softball team kicked off their 2018 season in the Kajikawa classic. This will be the Hoosiers sixth straight season beginning their season in the classic, which is hosted annually by Arizona State. Including the games against Boise and Oregon State, Indiana will be facing Northwestern, San Jose State, and the hosts, Arizona State.

In the first game of the doubleheader versus Boise State, the Hoosiers started off slow. In just the top of the first inning, starting pitcher Josie Wood gave up a grand slam, putting Indiana in a 4-0 hole early.
After allowing the Broncos to score the next two runs, IU proceeded to score the three after that, including the first home run of the young season, a solo shot by Taylor Uden.
Despite a late 7th-inning rally that included a homerun by Annika Baez, and a two-run double off the bat of Gabbi Jenkins, the Hoosiers fell in the first game by a score of 7-6
As for the second game of the doubleheader, there wasn’t much action until late. Indiana held a 1-0 lead until the Beavers scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead. Oregon State would score one more run in the sixth to finish off the Hoosiers by a score of 4-1.
