Getting to know Tre Roberson
By Editorial Staff
One of the biggest pieces to the Hoosiers 2011 recruiting class in Lawrence Central’s QB Tre Roberson. Luckily, he was on 1070 The Fan (see below post) discussing the new hire and said he was firmly committed to the Hoosiers. Tre is a dual threat QB who rushed for 1,992 yards and 21 TD’s his senior year and threw for 2,611 yards and 24 TD’s (only 4 INT’s). Lawrence Central lost in the state championship game to Fishers 38-19. Nat Newell from the IndyStar asked him a few questions to let everyone know more about the QB.
Nickname: Tre is short for Trerien. “My parents just made it up.”
Best non-football sports moment: “When I dunked for the first time in the eighth grade at an AAU tournament in Arkansas.”
Where you see yourself in 15 years: “Playing in the NFL — that’s every kid’s dream — and giving back to the community.”
Sports hero growing up: His grandfather, Larry Highbaugh, who was a star athlete at Washington High School and in the Canadian Football League; and Michael Vick.
Craziest superstition: Wearing pink socks underneath his game socks. Roberson wore pink socks to raise awareness of breast cancer for the Oct. 1 game against Southport, then continued to wear them after the Bears won 49-13.
Toughest player you faced: “There’s been a lot of tough ones, (but) Eric Williams (of Warren Central). I threw my first interception as a sophomore at Warren. He was real tough.”
