Maine South finished off the year 14-0 to win the Illinois Class 8A title. IU commit Matt Perez set a state championship game record with 316 yards and 5 touchdowns. Maine South has now won 2 straight state championships. The more surprising part is that Perez had a left thigh bruise, a right ankle injury and possibly a broken left hand he has been nursing all week. He didn’t let any of those injuries stop him on Maine South’s 41-17 victory over Marist. Perez finished the season with 2,246 yards and 34 rushing touchdowns. He had a total of 38 touchdowns.
