PORTLAND, OREGON – MARCH 19: Drew Timme #2 of the Gonzaga Bulldogs celebrates with Anton Watson #22 after defeating the Memphis Tigers 82-78 during the second half in the second round of the 2022 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament at Moda Center on March 19, 2022 in Portland, Oregon. Anton Watson, 6’8″ 225lbs, Senior Forward
2021-22 Stats: 7.3 pts/g, 4.7 reb/g, 1.3 stl/g, 22.9 PER

Julian Strawther, 6’7″ 205lbs, Junior Guard/Forward
2021-22 Stats: 11.8 pts/g, 5.4 reb/g, 18.7 PER

The same song is sung every single season with the Gonzaga Bulldogs as once again they will be the favorites to win the national championship, but yet again will fall short. Drew Timme is returning for, what should be, his final season in Spokane and looks to take back control of the Bulldogs’ offense. Even though he led Gonzaga in scoring last season, Timme seemed to take a back seat behind now-NBA rookies Andrew Nembhard and Chet Holmgren.

Anton Watson and Julian Strawther will be the keys for the Gonzaga frontcourt to have a successful season. Most people know what Timme is going to give, but if Watson and Strawther can improve offensively and anchor the defense, the Bulldogs will be tough to beat.

Comparing to the Indiana basketball frontcourt

Give me Trayce Jackson-Davis over Drew Timme any day of the week. Offensively, they’re pretty equal besides Timme figuring out how to shoot the ball. TJD’s length and defensive versatility, with the help of Race Thompson, would slow down Timme and the Bulldogs’ frontcourt as experience plays a factor, YET AGAIN, and gives the Hoosiers’ frontcourt the slight advantage.
