Devonte Green

As a senior point guard, Devonte Green will need to have an All-Big Ten caliber season for NBA scouts to take notice of his potential.

With ideal height at 6-foot-3 and athleticism for a point guard, his skillset is more of a combo guard than straight point guard.

Being the team’s leading three-point marksmen at 41 percent a season ago will sound amazing to scouts and even better if he can improve upon that percentage in his final season. Despite that percentage, he has a career two-point field goal percentage of just 40, which needs to improve drastically.

Aside from an increase in scoring, scouts will also be looking for Green to cut down on his turnovers and show more control as the team’s point guard. Averaging 2.3 turnovers a game last year will be a concern to scouts as they will need that number to go down significantly.

He has shown flashes of his playmaking ability as the lead guard as he averaged 3.0 assists on the season, but has nearly an identical assist-to-turnover ratio for his career.

A maturity issue could come into play with Green as well, who was suspended for a portion of last season due to violating team rules. Playing alongside fellow point guard Rob Phinisee could also expose him to guarding taller shooting guards, portraying him as a defensive liability.

The NBA is all about having guards off the bench who can shoot and score in bunches, and Green definitely fits the mold of a someone who could fit in a rotation with his main job to shoot and score.

Overall, Green has the shooting ability and athleticism to play at the next level but it is all of the other intangibles that he needs to improve on this season in order to get looked at by NBA front offices.
