Dante Exum, a 2014 recruit from Australia, will be making a visit to Indiana University for the game on Saturday against the Golden Gophers. The 6’5″ guard in currently a five-star recruit on Rivals and a four-star on Scout. Indiana’s scholarship numbers issue is something to discuss in another article, but there is something about this kid that people need to know. He is good. Simple as that. At 6’5″, he becomes an automatic threat at the guard position. If you look up some videos on this kid, the first thing you will notice is his ball-handling capabilities. Couple this with his quick feet and he is in the paint going up for a layup before the defender can even turn his body.

Being in the class of 2014 only benefits Dante Exum, and also the school he chooses to go to. He has that time to build muscle and become stronger. His long arms and jumping ability are impressive for his current level, but if he wants to succeed in a league like the Big 1o, he must become stronger. But that is something to dive deeper into when he comes closer to his collegiate career.

Dante currently has offers from Indiana, Boise State, Georgetown, LSU, SMU, Tulsa, and Vanderbilt. Along with those schools, he his getting looked at by St. Mary’s and Roy Williams at UNC. It is still early, so expect that list to grow. However, with Indiana getting back into the national spotlight, expect the Hoosiers to be at the top of his list. The fact that he made a quick decision to fly to the small town of Bloomington for a visit can only be a good sign for Tom Crean.

So, the first bump in the road for Crean on the recruitment front has appeared. Trey Lyles of the class of 2014 has officially reopened his recruitment. Currently in the top 10 for juniors on ESPNU, Lyles was one of the biggest headlines for Indiana when he committed as a freshman at Arsenal Tech. Before he committed to Indiana, he took a visit to Ohio State, and Purdue was also in the mix. But I have a feeling that more schools are going to be factors. Actually, that is a fact. He is only going to be a junior and his skills have improved exponentially from when he was a freshman. He is a 6’8″ machine that can do it all. Don’t be surprised if you start hearing Kentucky or Duke being thrown around. There is still not enough information on where else he is going to look, but his high school coach insists that Indiana is still his #1 choice. But let’s all be honest, how may times in college sports, not just basketball, does a kid decommit from a school and then go back there? The chances are not in our favor with Lyles. But don’t get too down all you Hoosier fans. Crean is still in hot pursuit for Cliff Alexander of Chicago, Theo Pinson of North Carolina, and JaQuan Lyle, who might be the one who could take Lyles spot. It is a bump in the road, but it isn’t going to derail Indiana’s recruiting. It is one player. You need a team of at least 8 solid players, and Crean already has that. All will be okay, I promise.
