Not only did the Hoosiers win the 2012 NCAA National Championship this past December, making it title number 8 might I add, but numerous players made it into the spotlight after the season ended.

In today’s 2013 Major League Soccer SuperDraft, IU sophomore Eriq Zavaleta was the 10^th overall pick now on his way to the Seattle Sounders. Still planning to finish his degree, Zavaleta will head to preseason training camp in Seattle next week. And to keep it all in the family, Sounders’ coach Sigi Schmid coached at UCLA, where Zavaleta’s father and uncle played back in the day.

Senior goaltender Luis Soffner was also drafted in the 36th spot overall by the New England Revolution. This makes the two the 40^th and 41st Indiana players to be drafted in the school’s history.

If all that doesn’t add to his bragging rights, head coach Todd Yeagley was named the NCAA Division I Coach of the Year. A proud year for him without a doubt.

And next year’s season will be no different. To add to the relatively young roster, Michael Galullo, Tanner Thompson, and transfer Dylan Mares will be joining the Indiana Hoosiers. Galullo and Thompson are graduating a semester early to begin classes and start practicing with the team this spring.

Let’s cheer on Zavaleta and Soffner as they keep their Hoosier roots with them halfway across the country.
