With recruiting heating up and players receiving more and more offers from top schools, people need to realize that the coaches only do part of the recruiting. It’s the current players and commits of a program that try to sway undecided players to join their respective team. That is exactly what is happening with BeeJay Anya, the 13th ranked player in the class of 2013, according to ESPNU. Just to give you a perspective of how big of a target this kid is, here are the schools that have extended a scholarship offer to him: DePaul, Georgetown, Florida, Louisville, NC State, Pitt, Seton Hall, Syracuse, Texas, UCLA, Virginia, VA Tech, West Virginia, and, of course, Indiana. He’s a Maryland stud that would be a great addition at any school. However, he is feeling a little extra pressure from the Hoosiers. Current 2013 commit, Stanford Robinson, plays with Anya on Team Takeover. Also, to play to the Hoosiers’ advantage, Maurice Creek and Victor Oladipo played for the same AAU team back in their high school days. Anya and Oladipo are also close because they are both products of DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville.

Anya will most likely take an official visit to Indiana, but there are still the other schools that are pursuing him. Ohio State is also in contact with Anya, but they have yet to extend an offer his way. BeeJay would be a huge addition to the Hoosiers, because by the time he comes in, there is a good chance that Cody will be gone and working out for his NBA team. People are trying to believe that Luke Fischer of Germantown, WI will be able to fill that void. However, Anya has strength and his large body is exactly what the Hoosiers are missing. The kind of guy who can go up against true centers in the Big 10. The one thing that needs to be solved before any commitment can be announced, and that is the scholarship number issue. Crean still has six offers open for the Class of 2013 (including Anya’s), but he may only have one spot left for: Anya, Marcus Lee, Kennedy Meeks, Semi Ojeleye, Garret Covington, and Darryl Hicks.

All I can say is keep it up Stanford, Vic, and Mo. We need Anya’s size, and then we can say we have every piece to be the nation’s true powerhouse team again.
