The freshman forward is expected to return to action when Indiana basketball takes on Minnesota today.

Redshirt freshman forward Race Thompson is expected to return to action when Indiana plays Minnesota after dealing with a concussion that has kept him out almost all season.

Though he began dressing for games a couple of weeks ago, Archie Miller said he wouldn’t see in action on the court until his conditioning improved.

Coach Miller said that Thompson was progressing nicely and a return was possible.

"“Race has done a nice job in his last two and a half weeks of just practicing every day, hard. He hasn’t missed…He’s starting to get his conditioning level back and he’s starting to move better.”"

Thompson, who redshirted last season, has made just one appearance this season, playing four minutes against Montana State back in early November. He has also missed time due to an upper leg injury as well.

A thin front court for the Hoosiers, Thompson could bring a much needed help to an Indiana team that has struggled on the glass all season.

With a matchup against Jordan Murphy, third in the NCAA in rebounding with 11.9 per game, another body to rotate on to the 6-foot-10 forward will give senior forward Juwan Morgan a much needed rest.

Not only is it Thompson’s first action in three months but it is also a return home for the Minnesota native, playing high school basketball for Robbinsdale Armstrong High.
