Indiana head coach Archie Miller could play a role in the interest of rising star Nahziah Carter. The three-star, class of 2017 forward previously committed to Dayton under Miller.

The Hoosiers entering the summer still have an open scholarship on the table for next season. Many have wonders of who head coach Archie Miller will pursue. The Hoosiers seemingly have an interest in a handful of recruits in since Miller took over in early April. Coach Miller’s first task was to convince the recruits Tom Crean had on board for 2017-18 to stay with the program.

Looking at the one scholarship open for Miller draws questions to recruits and potential transfers. In the first week of June, it has become crunch time for Miller to try and fill that last spot. We previously reported a possible interest in three-star guard McKinley Wright, who had committed to Dayton but reopened recruitment after Miller left.

It seems that Wright is now a hard commit to Colorado, but another potential former Dayton commit still hangs out there. Three-star recruit Nahziah Carter has been coming up on the Hoosiers radar recently. He has been linked with a number of different teams, but Indiana coming in just recently.

Nahziah Carter was previously committed to play for Archie Miller at Dayton. Since his departure, Carter reopened his recruiting process. He even has thought about the possibility of reclassifying into the class of 2018 according to Bleacher Report. “I want to graduate because I feel like I have some good scholarships in this class, but I also feel like I could get stronger with strength and conditioning for another year in prep school,” he tells Bleacher Report, “I haven’t made up my mind yet.”

More from basketball recruiting

Archie Miller and the Indiana Hoosiers are in no rush to fill the final scholarship hole left by Grant Gelon. Gelon recently asked for his release from the program to transfer according to the Inside the Hall. All things considered, Miller has reached out to Carter about the possibility of playing for the Hoosiers. “Yeah, [coach Miller] and I talk here and there. Once they had a scholarship open, they reached out to me with a little more interest, I think.”

The 6-6, 185 lbs. senior is ranked the No. 328 player nationally for the class of 2017. This might be a reason for Carter to stay another year and prepare in prep school. Let’s say for the sake of hypotheticals Carter stays in this year’s class. The Hoosiers might have the best chance to land him because of Miller’s recruitment.

He has quickly been climbing up recruiting boards because of dunks like this one on the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2018.

We won’t have a clear idea of whether or not Carter is a legitimate option at Indiana until he makes his class decision. Some have also been talking about Carter because of his famous family connection. Nahziah Carter is the nephew of rap legend Jay Z, who was recently spotted at one of his recent tournaments. While his status being a part of the Hov family doesn’t mean all that much, it’s worth mentioning. I’m imagining Jay Z and wife Beyoncé arriving at Assembly Hall for a game next season.
