The Los Angeles Chargers have announced that they have extended a contract to former Indiana wide receiver Mitchell Paige.

The Los Angeles Chargers seem to be fond of the Indiana football program. The Chargers took OL Dan Feeney with their third-round pick. To add to that, they have now signed on former Hoosier wide receiver Mitchell Paige.

Mitchell Paige was a walk-on at Indiana and played his way into a crucial part of the Hoosiers offense. The 5-foot-7, 180-pound wideout had 115 catches, 1,330 yards and 10 touchdowns in his career with the Hoosiers.

Paige attended the Chargers Rookie Mini-Camp on a tryout basis. He was no stranger to a tryout, making his way onto the Hoosiers roster. He told Rivals.com in April that he was just looking for an opportunity, a chance to play in the NFL.

"“Once I get on the field and get a chance, it’s back to square one like I was here being a guy that’s got a lot of work to do. I’m excited for it. The next couple of months, whatever happens, I’m going to be ready.” – Mitchell Paige"

The Big Ten Network did a segment on Mitchell Paige back in November 2016. Former Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson praised walk-ons as an essential part of the Hoosiers program. Wilson also talks about Mitchell Paige’s progression throughout his time at Indiana.

Mitchell Paige was an important part of the Hoosiers offense last season. After one of the Hoosiers top receivers Simmie Cobbs Jr. went down for the season, Paige stepped up. He led the Hoosiers in receptions and yards earning honorable mention in the  All-Big Ten honors. He was named a team captain in 2016 and fifth in the conference in catches.
