Kiante Enis has the potential to make an immediate impact on the Hoosier’s running attack, but the question remains whether he can truly fill the shoes of the NFL stars before him?

No matter how futile of a football team the Indiana Hoosiers have been, they have always found a way to run the ball effectively.  Whether it be Tevin Coleman or Jordan Howard, the Hoosiers have always had someone in the backfield that could physically carry the offense when needed.  Now with the departure of Jordan Howard to the Chicago Bears, the Hoosiers will be looking to multiple options in the backfield to replace his production.  This includes potential breakout freshman Kiante Enis.

More from Hoosier State of Mind

Enis took a rather interesting path to get to Indiana this past spring, as he originally found himself to be a Michigan commit. Enis was committed to playing football for the Wolverines before they landed the number one running back in the nation. Once Michigan did that, Enis did the intelligent thing and got out of that program while he could.  Of course, Enis did state his need to be close to home as a reason for decommitting, but it’s quite obvious that Michigan’s plethora of running backs had an effect on him.  Enis is from Winchester, Indiana, and according to 247Sports, he is the sixth best prospect from the state of Indiana.  Enis originally visited Indiana on December 4th, and from there he made his commitment to Indiana on National Signing Day.

Bringing Enis into the program is a big deal for Coach Kevin Wilson not only because of Enis’ future production, but also because of what Enis represents in the grand scheme of recruiting.  Kiante Enis is a speedy back that can play multiple positions on the offensive side of the ball. His skill will allow him an opportunity early, but what might matter most with his commitment is the fact that Coach Kevin Wilson is beginning to prove that he can keep top in-state talent from leaving.

Enis ran for 2,393 yards and 35 touchdowns as a senior, so it’s clear that the man knows how to make an impact. With Camion Patrick’s knee issues, and Kevin Wilson’s running game by committee approach, expect Enis to come on the field to alleviate Devine Redding of his duties a good amount this season.
